About
Rauriser Tauernhaus sits at 1526m in the Rauriser Tal, a quiet valley in the Hohe Tauern National Park east of Zell am See. Reach it from Rauris village (35 minutes by car to the valley's car park) by hiking the Rauriser Tal for 3 hours. The valley walk follows the Rauriser Ache stream through larch forest with steady altitude gain. From the hut, the Hocharn (3254m) and Ankogel (3246m) are major objectives for experienced alpinists. Hikers access higher trails across the Hochalm plateau and towards the Fuscher Tauern.
The hut accommodates 30–40 people in simple shared dormitories and a few double rooms. Meals are hearty: four-course dinners with local ingredients, packed lunches on request, and solid breakfasts. Hot showers and basic drying facilities are available. The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and opens mid-June through September. Water comes from the stream; there is no shop within 2 hours' walk.
Book directly with the hut or through the OeAV website. July and August fill quickly; reserve by May for summer weekends. The hut is quieter mid-week and outside July–August. Phone or email at least 2–3 weeks ahead. Come self-sufficient for snacks and any specific dietary needs. Winter access is not reliable and not recommended.
