Riemannhaus

Riemannhaus sits at 2177m in the Berchtesgaden Alps near Salzburg, accessed via the Königssee from the north or from Schönau am Königssee. Most hikers approach from Bad Reichenhall across the Hochplatte (2189m) in 4–5 hours, a steady pull with good views across the limestone peaks. The hut lies on established routes linking the Reiter Alpe to the south and the Schärten area to the north, making it a logical stop on multi-day traverses rather than a destination hut.
The hut offers around 40 beds in mixed and private rooms. Meals are served in the afternoon and evening; bring your own lunch or eat the hut's provisions at midday. Drinking water is available at the hut. Showers are available but expect cold water or minimal heating depending on the season. There is no WiFi. The hut operates year-round, though facilities are limited in winter and you should confirm opening before travelling in the off-season. The atmosphere is low-key and workmanlike—this is a walker's hut, not a resort.
Book by phone, especially for July and August when the hut regularly fills. Spring (May–June) and autumn (September–October) are less crowded but still require advance notice at weekends. Winter bookings should be made at least two weeks ahead. Expect to pay standard OeAV member rates if affiliated; non-members pay a modest surcharge.
