Ritzingerhütte sits at 1,651m in the Loferer and Leogantner Limestone Alps, roughly 90 minutes southeast of Salzburg. Reach it from the village of Sankt Martin bei Lofer via the Saalbach valley trail, a 4-hour walk gaining 850m. The hut is also accessible from Hinterthal in 3 hours. Both approaches are steep but well-marked. The surrounding terrain offers everything from day hikes along the limestone ridges to rock scrambling. Winter access is possible but the hut reduces capacity during colder months.
The OeAV-managed hut has 80 beds split across dormitories and a handful of private rooms. Meals are solid Austrian fare: hearty soups, schnitzel, spätzle, and fresh bread. They serve breakfast from 7:00 onwards and dinner from 18:30. The water supply comes from a mountain spring. Wi-Fi and mobile reception are patchy. The hut operates year-round but fully staffs only May through October; winter operations require advance notice.
