Reach it from the village of Sankt Martin bei Lofer via the Saalbach valley trail, a 4-hour walk gaining 850m. The hut is also accessible from Hinterthal in 3 hours. Both approaches are steep but well-marked. The surrounding terrain offers everything from day hikes along the limestone ridges to rock scrambling. Winter access is possible but the hut reduces capacity during colder months.
The OeAV-managed hut has 80 beds split across dormitories and a handful of private rooms. Meals are solid Austrian fare: hearty soups, schnitzel, spätzle, and fresh bread. They serve breakfast from 7:00 onwards and dinner from 18:30. The water supply comes from a mountain spring. Wi-Fi and mobile reception are patchy. The hut operates year-round but fully staffs only May through October; winter operations require advance notice.
