Schörgi Alm

Schörgi Alm sits at 1,582m on the northern slopes of the Salzburg Alps, reached via the Saalbach valley. From Saalbach village (1,003m), the hike takes 2.5 hours following marked trails through beech forest and alpine meadow. The final approach steepens as you climb toward the hut's location on open pasture. Summer hiking access is straightforward; winter approaches depend on snow conditions.

The hut operates as a traditional Almhütte serving hikers traversing the Salzburg region. It offers around 30 beds in simple dormitory rooms and a handful of double rooms. The restaurant serves standard alpine fare—Kaiserschmarrn, Erdäpfelsuppe, grilled trout—using local dairy products from the working alm. The hut typically opens mid-May through September, with shoulder season dates depending on weather and staffing. Basic facilities include toilets and washbasins; there is no shower. Water comes from the mountain spring. The hut runs on a mix of hikers and mountain bikers passing through on valley crossings.

Call ahead to reserve beds, especially for weekends in July and August when the hut reaches capacity. Weekend parties and school groups book 4-6 weeks in advance. Mid-week visits in June and September offer quieter conditions. Phone contact is essential since the hut has no email or online booking system. Confirm opening dates before planning a spring or autumn trip. Payment is cash only.
