Almreserlhaus

The Almreserlhaus sits at 1222m in the Sölktal, a quiet valley south of Irdning in Styria. Reach it from the Sölk valley road (B115) by parking near Plan and hiking 2 hours north through forest and alpine meadow. The approach is steady rather than steep, following the Sölk stream through open pasture where you'll spot the hut emerging against the valley side. You can also access it from the Sölkpass (2079m) in 2.5 hours, joining trails from the Seckauer Alpen to the east.
The hut offers 50 beds split across dormitories and a handful of double rooms. Meals focus on regional mountain cooking—expect hearty soups, schnitzel, and Steirerkäse. The kitchen can pack lunches if you order ahead. There's a small bar and an outdoor terrace facing the valley. Water comes from the spring above the hut. The hut operates year-round but check ahead for winter staffing. It's managed by the Sölktal community rather than the OeAV, which affects booking procedures slightly.
Book directly by phone or email rather than through Alpine club systems. July and August weekends fill 2-3 months ahead; shoulder seasons (June, September) offer better flexibility. Arrive early on weekdays in peak season or expect to be turned away. The hut suits walkers doing multi-day valley circuits or using it as a base for day hikes to nearby peaks and passes—expect a working mountain hut rather than a destination in itself.
