Gleinalm Schutzhaus

Gleinalm Schutzhaus sits at 1586m on the Gleinalmpass between the Seckauer Tauern and Seckauer Zinsen ranges in Styria. The hut is accessible from multiple approach routes: from Seckau village via the Seckauer Tauern trail (around 4 hours), or from Paal in the Mur Valley (approximately 3.5 hours). The pass is a key junction for longer Alpine traverses and day hikers crossing between valleys. Winter access depends on snow conditions and can be unreliable at this elevation.
Gleinalm Schutzhaus operates as a mountain refuge managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV). The hut has 30 beds split between private and dormitory rooms. The kitchen prepares simple meals for residents, with packed lunches available if ordered in advance. There is no WiFi; bring a charged phone or accept being offline. The hut stays open year-round but staffing is reduced in November and early December. Winter visitors should confirm availability before traveling, as conditions can force temporary closures.
