Gmoa Alm
3.6About
Gmoa Alm is a working alpine dairy farm that takes hikers. It has modest accommodation—around 20 beds across simple rooms—and serves hearty farm food including their own dairy products. Meals are substantial: expect schnitzel, stews, and spaetzle rather than gourmet fare. The hut runs year-round though demand peaks May through October. Water comes straight from the mountain. Facilities are basic: no electricity in bedrooms, cold showers, and a common dining area where you eat with other guests and the farm family.
Book in advance during July and August, particularly on weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone or email. Outside peak season you can often turn up without a reservation. The Sölk Valley rewards slow hiking—this hut anchors shorter circuits rather than high alpine routes, so come here to walk steadily rather than chase peaks or distance.
