Kienthalerhütte

The Kienthalerhütte sits at 1,380m in the Sölk Valley, deep in Styrian limestone country. Approach from the village of Sölk along the valley floor—the hut lies 5km from the road end at Sölkbad, roughly 1.5 hours on foot. The walk gains minimal elevation and follows a well-marked trail through mixed forest and alpine meadow. The location works as a base for day hikes into the Sölk Alps or as a overnight stop on ridge traverses connecting the Rottenmanner and Wölzer Tauern.
The hut is managed by OeTK (Austrian Touring Club), Sektion Kienthaler, and holds around 40 beds in mixed dormitories. Meals focus on traditional Austrian fare—expect schnitzel, stews, and hearty soups. The hut operates self-catering capability as well, useful if you're flexible on timing. Water comes from the valley stream. Toilet facilities are basic but clean. The hut opens year-round but sees highest traffic May through September; winter access requires snow sense.
