Königsalm

Königsalm sits at 1,578m in the Sölktal, a deep valley in Styria's Niedere Tauern range. Most hikers approach from Sölk-Bad, which takes 2.5 hours on a steadily climbing trail through forest and alpine meadow. The hut is a common staging point for summit attempts on Sölkkar (2,464m) and links to longer ridge walks through the surrounding peaks. Winter access is limited; check conditions before arriving October onwards.
The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and operates as a traditional mountain refuge with a strong emphasis on home cooking. It holds around 50 beds spread across simple shared and a few private rooms. Meals feature regional Styrian fare—expect hearty soups, schnitzel, and fresh bread. The hut has no electricity from the grid, relying on solar and generators, so showers are available but water is rationed. Kitchen access is limited for self-catering. The season runs mid-June to late September, weather permitting.

Half-board is standard. The hut fills quickly during school holidays and fair-weather weekends, so email your booking confirmation before departure.
