Moaralm

Moaralm sits at 1,539m in the Sölk valley south of Schladming in Styria. Reach it by car via the Sölkpass road from Sölk-Bad or from the Pöls valley. The hut stands at the end of the driveable road, making it accessible for a quick visit or as a base for hiking deeper into the Sölk Alps. Most people arrive by vehicle, but you can also walk up from Sölk-Bad in about 2 hours via the valley trail.
Moaralm is a working mountain farm and guesthouse that serves simple food and drinks to passing hikers and drivers. The hut offers basic accommodation with a handful of rooms and dormitory beds. Expect straightforward facilities: a dining room where hikers mix with day visitors, toilets, and the core mountain hospitality. The kitchen serves traditional Styrian fare—schnitzel, stews, fresh Alpine dairy products. Open year-round with reduced hours in winter months. Call ahead if you plan to stay overnight, as capacity is small.
Book rooms directly by phone or email several weeks ahead, especially for weekends during July and August. Day hikers can drop in without reservation and order food at the counter. Moaralm works best as a lunch stop or overnight base for hikes into the higher Sölk Alps rather than a destination in itself. The setting is working pastoral landscape, not alpine wilderness.
