Rammelhütte

The Rammelhütte sits at 1514m in the Eisenerz Alps of Styria, accessible via the village of Eisenerz. Reach the hut on foot from Eisenerz in roughly 1.5 hours following marked trails through mixed forest. The route gains about 400m elevation and is straightforward underfoot. The hut works as a base for ridge walking in the Eisenerz Alps or as a waypoint on longer traverses across the region. Summer hiking here is reliable, with established trails linking to neighboring huts and peaks.
The Rammelhütte operates year-round as a simple mountain inn. The hut sleeps around 30 people in mixed dormitories and has a few private rooms. Meals focus on local Styrian cooking—expect hearty soups, schnitzel, and substantial desserts. The hut has a working kitchen, running water, and basic heating. Cell reception is patchy. The atmosphere is low-key and geared toward serious hikers rather than casual visitors.
Book directly with the hut operator by phone or email several weeks ahead for July and August. The Rammelhütte is not part of the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) or DAV systems, so standard alpine hut booking platforms do not list it. Outside peak summer season, walk-in visits are usually possible if you contact ahead. Winter access depends on snow conditions and the operator's staffing.
