Teicheneggalm

Teicheneggalm sits at 1,570m on the eastern slopes of the Stubalpe, in central Styria. From Stainach-Pöls train station, hike northeast for 3.5 hours following marked trails through mixed forest and alpine meadow to reach the hut. Alternatively, start from Seckau and approach from the south in similar time. The hut works as a halfway stop on longer ridge traverses or as a base for exploring the Stubalpe massif, which dominates this section of the Styrian Alps.
The hut is a simple mountain farmstead offering around 40 beds in shared dormitories. Meals focus on hearty Austrian fare—expect schnitzel, potato dishes, and Bauernkase (farm cheese). A basic kitchen is available if you bring your own food. Water comes from a spring nearby. The hut operates year-round, though October through April sees reduced staffing and lower reliability, so phone ahead outside summer. Toilets are outdoors; showers are not available.
Book direct by calling ahead, especially for weekends in July and August. Solo walkers and small groups find space readily on weekdays. The hut's informality means flexibility—many hikers simply show up and stay the night, though confirming food availability beforehand saves disappointment.
