Ternitzer Hut

Ternitzer Hütte sits at 1,199m in the Stub Alps near Ternitz in lower Styria. Reach it from Ternitz town in about 2 hours on foot. The hut lies on established hiking routes through mixed forest terrain—it's a straightforward valley approach rather than a high alpine destination. The location works well as a base for day hikes across the Stub Alps or as a stopping point on longer Styrian routes.
The hut accommodates around 30 people in mixed dormitories and private rooms. You have access to a self-catering kitchen, so bring or buy your own supplies. Showers are available. The Naturfreunde Österreich manages the hut with a strong emphasis on self-sufficiency and low costs. Winter closure is typical, though exact months vary by year—contact ahead if you're planning an off-season visit.
