Alpenfreundehütte
3.7About
The hut has 40 beds in simple dormitory rooms and doubles. Hot meals are served for dinner and breakfast. The kitchen prepares hearty Austrian fare—expect schnitzel, stews, and fresh bread. Water comes from the spring. The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and operates year-round, though staff availability is reduced in winter months. Basic facilities include an outhouse and cold-water washbasin; there is no shower.
Book directly with the hut keeper 4 to 8 weeks ahead for summer weekends. July and August bring regular hiking groups. Midweek and shoulder seasons (May, June, September) have spare beds. Write or phone ahead in winter to confirm opening. The hut is popular with local walkers and works well as an overnight stop on longer Fischbacher Alpen traverses.
