Anton-Karg-Haus

The Anton-Karg-Haus sits at 829m in the Zillertal, a major valley system in Tyrol that feeds dozens of multi-day routes into the higher ranges. The hut is walkable from Mayrhofen (approximately 2 hours on marked trail) or accessible by cable car and short descent from Penken, making it a logical base for valley exploration or a rest day between longer Alpine stages. The location works well for hikers bridging the lower Zillertal and the Zillertal Alps proper.
The hut offers 25 beds in mixed and private rooms with basic but functional facilities. Meals focus on traditional Austrian fare with vegetarian options available. The hut operates year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and trail maintenance. There's a small bar area and drying room for wet gear. Shower facilities are available. The hut caters primarily to Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) members and DAV members, though non-members are welcome subject to a small surcharge.
Book 4–8 weeks ahead for weekends and July–August. July and August weekends fill regularly. Contact the hut directly by phone to check availability and confirm your preferred dates.
