About
Wildangerhütte sits at 2,403m in the Zillertal Alps, accessed via the Zemmbach valley from the village of Mayrhofen. The approach takes 3.5 hours from the valley floor. You can also reach the hut in 2 hours from Furtschagl Haus to the south. The trail climbs steadily through larch forest before breaking into alpine meadow and scree. The final section crosses loose rock—reliable footing matters here. The hut serves as a base for ascents of Hochfeiler (3,510m) and Zemmkogel (3,065m), both serious mountaineering routes requiring rope skills.
Wildangerhütte is run by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and holds 120 beds across dormitories and a few private rooms. The kitchen provides three meals daily; half-board is standard. The hut has no WiFi or phone signal—expect real isolation. Water comes from a spring. There's a drying room for boots and climbing gear. The building sits in an exposed position; wind management is part of the experience. Expect basic comfort: sturdy bunks, simple food, and efficient heating.
Book from April onward for July and August. The hut fills fastest between mid-July and mid-August and during good weather windows in September when climbers tackle Hochfeiler. Contact the OeAV Mayrhofen office or book direct via the hut telephone (call the Mayrhofen tourist office for the number—they hold it because the hut has no line). Peak season requires 4–6 weeks' notice. June and September offer better availability and more reliable climbing conditions than midsummer.
