Berggasthaus Eggalm

Berggasthaus Eggalm sits at 1,940m in the Zillertal valley south of Mayrhofen. Reach it by hiking 2 hours from the Stillupp valley trailhead near Mayrhofen, or 2.5 hours from Ginzling via the Zillergrund. The approach is steady but manageable, gaining roughly 700m through forested terrain that opens to alpine meadows near the hut. You can also access it from the Zemmgrund valley to the south, making it a practical hub for multi-day traverses across the central Zillertal ranges.
The hut is a traditional Gasthaus with 40 beds spread across simple but comfortable rooms. Meals are hearty and filling—expect good Tyrolean cooking using local produce. The kitchen serves breakfast, packed lunches, and three-course dinners daily. There is hot water, but no private showers in rooms. The hut operates year-round, though staffing and meal availability are reduced in November and early December. It functions well as a base for day walks to nearby peaks or as an overnight stop on longer ridge routes.
