The Coburger Hütte sits at around 1,920 m in the Mieming Range (Mieminger Kette) of Tyrol — not the Stubai Alps — perched on a saddle just above the turquoise Seebensee and only a short climb below the dramatic Drachensee, the lake for which it is most famous. Backed by the walls of the Sonnenspitze and looking across to the Zugspitze massif, it is one of the most photographed hut settings in the Wetterstein–Mieming area. The hut is owned by Sektion Coburg of the German Alpine Club (DAV) and is a popular, family-friendly base for hikers, climbers and via ferrata parties. It offers roughly 75 dormitory sleeping places plus a small winter room, with showers, drying rooms and full catering. Most walkers ride the Ehrwalder Almbahn cable car and then hike about two hours past the Seebensee to reach it; on foot from Ehrwald or Biberwier the ascent takes around three hours. The setting makes it a classic short overnight, a stop on longer Mieminger traverses, and a hub for the Seebensee/Drachensee circuit. It is open from late spring through mid-autumn, and the terrain around it also suits ski touring in winter.

The Coburger Hütte is a summer hut, generally open from late May until around mid-October. Dates shift with snow and weather, so check the website before travelling.
The shortest common approach is from the Ehrwalder Alm (reached by the Ehrwalder Almbahn cable car), then about two hours on foot past the Seebensee. On foot all the way from Ehrwald it is roughly three hours.
The approach from the Ehrwalder Alm is a moderate mountain hike on good paths and is manageable for fit beginners and families, though the final section climbing towards the hut and the Drachensee is steeper and rockier.
The hut is fully catered with warm meals and drinks, and has showers, drying rooms and dormitory accommodation. A seminar/training room is also available for groups.
