Elferhütte

Elferhütte sits at 2,004m in the Zillertal, deep in Tyrol's eastern ranges. Reach it from Mayrhofen via the Zillertal valley floor. The standard approach takes 3–4 hours on foot from Mayrhofen village, following marked trails through forested terrain that opens gradually toward alpine meadow. You can also access it from the Zamser Grund in the west. The hut serves hikers tackling multi-day routes across this section of the Austrian Alps and walkers on day trips from the Zillertal.
Elferhütte is a traditional mountain hut offering 40–50 beds in mixed dormitories and a few small private rooms. The kitchen serves substantial evening meals and packed lunches for the next day. Tap water is reliable. The hut has pit toilets and basic washing facilities; expect cold water and minimal comfort. It operates from June through September, with weekends open in May and early October depending on snow melt. The hut is managed by volunteers and keeps a relaxed pace—arrive by 4pm if you want hot food.
Book direct by email or phone at least 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August. Weekends fill quickly even outside peak season. Phone ahead on arrival day if you're running late; the hut may hold a bed but cannot guarantee kitchen service after 6pm. Payment is cash only. The hut has no WiFi or mobile signal.
