Feuersteinhütte / Sattelalm

Feuersteinhütte sits at 1505m in the Zillertal, a major north-south valley in central Tyrol. The hut is accessible year-round from Zell am Ziller village. Most hikers approach via the Zillertal hiking trail, which takes 2.5 to 3 hours on foot from the valley floor. You can also drive partway up the valley road and park near the trailhead to cut hiking time. The hut lies on the main route between lower and upper Zillertal destinations, making it a natural stop for multi-day trips heading toward higher alpine huts.
Feuersteinhütte operates as a traditional mountain inn with a strong local clientele alongside overnight hikers. The hut sleeps around 40 people in simple shared dormitory rooms. Half-board (bed, dinner, breakfast) is standard; the kitchen serves hearty Tyrolean food. The hut has running water, basic toilet facilities, and a wood stove in the common room. It's open year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions on the approach trail. Day visitors are welcome, particularly on weekends.
Book directly by phone or email well ahead for July and August, when the hut fills quickly. Off-season (October to April) you can often arrive without reservation. The hut is managed independently, not by the Austrian Alpine Club, so confirm their current contact details before planning your trip. This is a working hut, not a tourist destination—expect a basic mountain experience with good food and reliable shelter.
