The Friesenberghaus sits at 2,498 m beside the Friesenbergsee in the Zillertal Alps of Tyrol, on a high shelf beneath the Olperer and Hoher Riffler with a grandstand view over the Schlegeis reservoir and its surrounding glaciers. It is a stage hut on both the Berliner Höhenweg and the Peter-Habeler-Runde, and is owned by the Berlin section of the German Alpine Club (DAV). The hut also carries strong historical significance as an anti-fascist memorial in German mountaineering, built in the 1920s during the exclusion of Jewish members from other sections. It offers 66 sleeping places, with 34 beds and 32 mattress-dormitory places, plus a small winter room. The catered season runs from about mid-June to mid/late September. The most popular approach climbs from the Schlegeis reservoir (Schlegeis Stausee) past the Friesenbergalm, a walk of roughly 2.5 hours gaining about 750 m, and the hut is easily linked to the neighbouring Olpererhütte (about 2 hours away) for a classic circuit. Beds can only be reserved through the Alpine Club's online booking tool.
