Friesenberghaus

Friesenberghaus sits at 2498m on the eastern flank of the Zillertal Alps in Tyrol. Most hikers approach from Mayrhofen in the valley, a 2.5-hour ascent following marked trails through alpine meadows to the hut's location above the Zillergrund. The route gains roughly 1400m and sees foot traffic year-round, though late summer and early autumn are busiest. Direct access from Ginzling is also possible, adding an extra hour to the approach.

The hut holds 65 beds across shared dormitory rooms. It runs a kitchen that serves dinner and breakfast; bring your own lunch or buy supplies in Mayrhofen before heading up. Showers are available—rare at this altitude—along with reliable drinking water from the spring. The hut operates year-round but sees reduced staffing in November and April when you should confirm availability first. DAV Sektion Berlin manages the facility, maintaining it to standard Alpine Club standards.

Book directly with the hut by email or phone, especially for July and August when weekends fill weeks ahead. Midweek visits in June, September and October have better availability. Winter ascents require mountaineering experience and snow-aware judgment; contact the hut to confirm conditions before attempting the snowy approach. DAV members receive modest bed-rate reductions.
