Furtschaglhaus

Furtschaglhaus sits at 2,295m in the Zillertal Alps, reached via the Zemmtal valley south of Mayrhofen. The standard approach takes 3 hours from Breitlahner (1,500m), following the Zemmbach stream on a well-marked path with steady elevation gain. You can also approach from the Zemmtal's upper car park, cutting the walk to 2 hours. The hut serves as a base for traversing this remote corner of the Alps or climbing the surrounding peaks—Hochfeiler and Wilder Freiger lie within day-trip range.

DAV Sektion Berlin manages the hut, which operates year-round except for maintenance closures in autumn and spring. The hut has 80 beds split between dorms and smaller rooms. Meals are substantial: half-board is standard, though you can order à la carte. Showers are available (small fee). The kitchen supplies hot drinks throughout the day. Winter access requires mountaineering skills and equipment; the hut sits in an avalanche-prone valley.

Book 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Outside summer, availability is reliable but confirm conditions—the hut closes during transitions.
