Glungezerhütte

Glungezerhütte sits at 2,610m on the Glungeze in the Zillertal, surrounded by high pasture and views toward the Ziller's eastern ridges. Reach it from Mayrhofen in 3.5–4 hours following the Zillertal trail system via Stillebach or from Hippach in roughly the same time. The hut is well-placed for day walks across the high terrain and connects into multi-day routes through the eastern Zillertal peaks.
The hut holds around 40 beds in mixed and smaller rooms. Meals are substantial—expect soup, schnitzel, and hearty vegetables at dinner. A small bar serves coffee and beer. WiFi is available if you need to check messages, though signal is predictably unreliable. There are no showers; wash facilities are basic. The hut opens from June to September, though dates shift with snow conditions—confirm before heading out in early June or late September. The Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) maintains the building and manages bookings.
Book 3–4 months ahead for July and August weekends. The hut fills quickly during school holidays and good weather windows in summer. Arrive by early afternoon to settle in before dinner service.
