Meissner Haus

Meissner Haus sits at 1,720m on the slopes of the Zillertal, a major hiking zone in central Tyrol. The hut is reached from Mayrhofen village—allow 2.5 to 3 hours walking via marked trails through mixed forest and alpine meadow. Mountain bikers can access the hut in summer using the Zillertal bike network. Winter access depends on snow conditions and avalanche stability; check with the hut before planning a winter visit.
The hut has 69 beds across multiple rooms, most with 4 to 6 bunks. Hot showers are available—rare for a hut at this elevation, and worth noting if you're planning a longer stay. Meals are cooked to order; bring a list of dietary requirements when you book. The hut operates year-round but expect basic service outside peak months (May to September and December to February). This is a working hut popular with day hikers and mountain bikers, so expect a livelier atmosphere than remote high-altitude refuges.
Book by phone direct with the hut, especially for July and August weekends when the Zillertal sees heavy foot traffic. Groups of 10 or more should book at least 4 weeks ahead. Outside summer, a week's notice is usually sufficient. Confirm winter opening dates before traveling.
