Hauerseehütte

Hauerseehütte sits at 2,383m in the Zillertal Alps, a straightforward base for ridge walking and peak bagging in the Tuxer Voralpen. Reach it from Mayrhofen in 4.5 hours via the Stillupbach valley, a steady climb through forest and alpine meadow with no technical terrain. You can also approach from Finkenberg (5 hours) or descend directly to Lanersbach. The hut sits above the Haurersee, a small glacial lake that marks the transition from pasture to scree and rock.
The DAV-managed hut sleeps around 40 people in mixed dormitory rooms with basic communal facilities. Half-board is standard (evening meal and breakfast included). The kitchen serves filling alpine fare. There's no shower or hot water for washing beyond what you need for meals. The hut operates June to September, with reliable staffing mid-July through August. Early and late season weekends can see reduced service—check before you arrive. Winter access is not maintained.
Book directly by phone with the warden. July and August weekends fill weeks ahead; book 4–6 weeks out for those dates. Weekday slots in June and September are usually available with less notice. The hut is popular with families and German weekend hikers, so expect company in summer. Solo trekkers and smaller groups find easier beds in shoulder season.
