Fiegls Gasthaus auf der Windachalm
3.6About
The hut is a working alpine gasthaus, not a mountain shelter, and serves as a base for summer hiking in the Zillertal. It has around 20 beds spread across simple rooms. The kitchen produces decent Tyrolean food—expect schnitzel, spätzle, and hearty soups. Half-board is standard. Water comes from the mountain and the hut has basic facilities typical of its elevation: no hot showers, squat toilets. The season runs mid-June through September, weather permitting.
Book directly by phone well ahead for July and August weekends. Fiegls fills quickly because it sits at a natural junction for longer ridge walks and offers far better value than the chain huts lower down. June and September are quieter and still reliable for good weather. Bring cash—card payment can be unreliable at this elevation.
