Hinterhorn Alm
3.6About
This is a working alpine dairy farm offering simple accommodation and meals. The hut sleeps around 30 people in dormitory rooms and a few doubles. Meals focus on hearty mountain fare: schnitzel, kaiserschmarrn, and traditional Tyrolean soups. The kitchen stocks supplies for self-caterers, though you're expected to order meals ahead. Water comes from the spring. There's no shower, but basic washing facilities exist. The hut operates year-round, though winter requires good snow experience or snowshoes for access.
Book directly by phone or email at least two weeks ahead for weekends. July and August are busy—aim for 4 weeks' notice during peak season. The hut is quieter in June, September, and early October when weather remains reliable. Off-season visits (November to April) need confirmation first, as staffing is minimal. Pay in cash or by bank transfer; card payments aren't accepted on-site.
