Hochjoch-Hospiz

Hochjoch-Hospiz sits at 2413m on the Hochjoch pass in the Zillertal, between the Ziller Valley and the Ötztal. The standard approach is from Mayrhofen in the north: allow 4–5 hours from the Ginkgo-Alm (parking at the Zillertal cable car terminus, then 30 minutes walking). From the south, the route from Oetz takes 4–6 hours. Both trails are well-marked mountain paths without significant scrambling. The hut is also accessible via the easier, longer approach from the Mörchenscharte in summer.
The hut offers 86 beds across mixed dormitories and some smaller rooms. The DAV Sektion Berlin manages it, so card-holding club members receive standard Alpine Club discounts on accommodation and meals. Half-board is standard: substantial evening meals and a hearty breakfast. Packed lunches are available on request. The facility has no WiFi. The hut operates year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and avalanche risk—contact ahead if planning November to April visits.
Email booking is essential, especially from June to September when the hut fills regularly on weekends. For July and August, book 2–3 months in advance. Phone enquiries also work for checking availability quickly. The hut sits on a key long-distance route between the two valleys, making it popular with walkers traversing the wider Zillertal circuit. Winter mountaineers heading to Zillertaler Wildspitze (3768m) use the hut as a base camp.
