Vernagthütte

Vernagthütte sits at 2,755m in the Ötztal, Tyrol, at the head of the Vernagt Valley. Reach it from Vent (1,894m) via a steep, rocky trail that takes 3.5 to 4 hours. The route climbs consistently through alpine meadow, scree, and talus. In winter and early spring, avalanche risk closes the standard approach; check conditions with the hut before attempting a winter ascent. The hut serves as a base for traverses toward the Similaun massif and approaches to Wilder Freiger.
Vernagthütte has 80 beds across multiple rooms. The DAV Sektion Würzburg maintains it as a traditional mountain hut with a kitchen, dining area, and basic washroom facilities. Meals include dinner and breakfast; packed lunches are available. Water comes from the glacier runoff nearby. The hut operates from mid-June through September. Staff are experienced in high-altitude conditions and can advise on route conditions to surrounding peaks. The hut fills regularly in July and August, especially for weekend traffic from the Ötztal.
Book directly with the hut by email or phone. Reserve at least 4 weeks ahead for July and August weekends; earlier in the season you may find space with 1 to 2 weeks notice. Confirm your arrival time when you book, as the final approach is exposed and daylight matters. The hut accepts cash and card payments.
