Karwendelhaus

Karwendelhaus sits at 1765m in the northern Karwendel range, directly on the main ridge walk between Mittenwald and the Achselköpfl. You reach it from the Leutasch valley—either via the Plödern hut route (4–5 hours) or from Mittenwald over the Südjoch (3–4 hours depending on your starting point). The hut is also accessible from the Eng valley approach, which takes roughly 3 hours from Enger Alm. Good boot condition is required on all approaches.
The DAV-managed hut sleeps around 80 people across dormitory rooms. The kitchen serves full half-board (dinner and breakfast) or you can eat à la carte. Bedding and blankets are provided. There's no WiFi, so expect to disconnect. The hut is open year-round but staffing is variable—contact ahead if climbing during shoulder seasons (April–May or October–November). The hut sits in avalanche terrain, so winter approaches require mountain experience and current conditions knowledge.
