Kluppenalm

Kluppenalm sits at 1,948m in the Zillertal, reached via the village of Mayrhofen. Most hikers start from Mayrhofen (630m) and walk 2.5 to 3 hours on well-marked trails through mixed forest and alpine meadow. The final approach steepens slightly but remains straightforward. In summer, a mountain bike route also connects to the hut, and the Penken cable car from Mayrhofen reduces approach time significantly if you're not keen on the full walk.
The hut is a working dairy farm and inn, operating year-round and run by the same family for generations. It accommodates around 30 people in basic but clean rooms, mostly doubles and triples. The kitchen serves hearty Tyrolean food—schnitzel, käsespätzle, and their own dairy products feature heavily. Vegetarian options are available. The hut has no electricity or running water; water comes from the spring, and you'll wash in cold water or heated buckets. This is part of its appeal for those seeking a more traditional Alpine experience. Meals are served at set times, so confirm mealtimes when you book.
Book directly by phone or email 2 to 3 weeks ahead for weekends and July to August. July and August weekends fill quickly. June, September, and early October are quieter and reliable. The hut sits on a popular circuit walk linking several other huts in the Zillertal, so don't expect solitude even in shoulder season. Winter access depends on snow conditions and often requires snowshoes.
