Poltnalm
3.7About
Poltnalm is a working alpine farm and simple hut run by a local family. It has room for around 40–50 guests in dormitory and small private rooms. Meals focus on hearty Austrian fare: soups, schnitzel, fresh bread, and dairy products from the farm. Water comes from a mountain spring. The hut lacks modern heating in side rooms and operates without electricity in some sections, keeping the experience straightforward. Opening runs May through October, with peak traffic July–August and weekends year-round.
Book directly with the hut by phone well ahead—minimum 2 weeks for weekends, 6 weeks for July–August. Contact details are listed on the Zillertal tourism website. Arrive with cash; the hut does not reliably accept cards. Plan a full day for hiking in from Mayrhofen if you're new to the terrain, and bring a detailed regional map (Zillertal 1:25,000).
