Krefelder Hut

The Krefelder Hütte sits at 2,300m on the Zillertal side of the Zillertal Alps. You reach it from Mayrhofen in about 4 hours walking, following the Zillertal trail via Grazbach. The approach gains roughly 1,100m elevation but stays well-marked and manageable for fit hikers. The hut works as a base for traverses across the northern Zillertal Alps and acclimatization for higher peaks like Hochfeiler (3,510m) to the south.
The DAV Sektion Krefeld manages the hut and operates it year-round, though winter conditions can be severe. It has 80 beds across multiple dormitories. Half-board is standard—expect traditional Austrian fare cooked fresh. The hut offers a small bar and basic shower facilities. Water comes from an on-site spring. Mobile phone coverage is patchy. Staffed by experienced wardens who know the local mountain weather and conditions well.
Book direct with the hut by email or phone. July and August fill fast; reserve 3 months ahead for these months. June and September are quieter and offer reliable weather. The hut closes briefly in late May for maintenance. Confirm current opening dates before traveling. Credit cards are not always accepted, so bring cash or ask about payment methods when you book.
