Landsberger Hut

Landsberger Hütte sits at 1805m in the Ammergau Alps, above the village of Unterammergau in the Ötztal region of Tyrol. The approach from Unterammergau takes 2.5 to 3 hours on a well-marked trail through mixed forest and alpine meadow. Most hikers start from the car park near Oberammergau and walk via the Soiernsee lake, adding roughly 30 minutes to the approach. The hut is accessible year-round on foot; in winter, steep sections may require experience with snowy terrain.
The DAV Sektion Landsberg-managed hut offers 50 beds in shared rooms. Meals focus on traditional alpine fare—expect hearty soups, schnitzel, and spätzle. The kitchen provides hot drinks throughout the day. Drinking water is available from the hut's spring; flush toilets are standard. There is no WiFi. The hut operates year-round, though staffing and meal service may be limited outside summer months. Winter visits require advance notice. The hut works well as a base for day walks in the Ammergau or as a stage on longer traverses linking the Oberammergau and Ettal valleys.
Book by phone directly with the hut, particularly for weekends and July to August when beds fill quickly. Confirm availability before arriving, especially in winter. Groups of 10 or more should contact the hut manager at least one month ahead. The hut is cash-only; bring sufficient notes for meals and accommodation.
