Memminger Hut

The Memminger Hut sits at 2,242m in the Allgäu Alps, a solid base for day walks and traverses across the limestone plateaus of the Säntis massif. Reach it from Oberstdorf in Germany (12km south) or from the Austrian side via Schoppernau. The standard approach from Oberstdorf via the Schöllang valley takes 3 to 4 hours. The hut also works as a crossing point on longer ridge routes linking the Allgäu to the Appenzell Alps. Snow covers the approach reliably from November through April.
The DAV-managed hut has 66 beds spread across multiple rooms. The kitchen serves a decent dinner menu and breakfast; bring snacks for day walks since the lunch offering is basic. Shower facilities are available. The hut opens year-round but staff presence is reliable from May through October. Winter access depends on snow conditions—contact before heading out in cold months. Mobile signal is weak but the hut has a phone.

The hut is less pressured from November to April, though check ahead for winter staffing. Arriving mid-week outside school holidays gives you better odds of finding space.
