Pforzheimer Hut

Pforzheimer Hütte sits at 2,308m in the Zillertal Alps of Tyrol. The hut is accessible from Mayrhofen in the Zillertal valley. From the valley station of the Ahorn cable car, allow 2.5 to 3 hours on foot to reach the hut. The trail climbs steeply through forest before opening to alpine meadows. Alternative approach routes exist from the Zillertal itself. This is solid hill-walker terrain, not technical climbing.
The hut sleeps around 50 people in dormitory and private rooms. Half-board is standard: hearty evening meals and breakfast are included with accommodation. The kitchen serves typical Austrian Alpine fare—expect schnitzel, käsespätzle, and substantial soups. The hut operates as a base for hiking into the surrounding limestone peaks and across meadows. Water is reliable. The hut opens year-round but sees most traffic May through October. Winter access depends on snow conditions and avalanche risk, so check ahead before a cold-season visit.
Book 3 months ahead for July and August weekends. Contact the hut directly by email or phone to reserve. Weekday slots fill less quickly. The hut can usually accommodate walk-ups in shoulder season (May, September, October), but don't rely on it. Confirm opening dates before traveling in winter. The hut is unmanned in early May and November, so plan accordingly if you're visiting during those transition weeks.
