Zirmbach Alm

Zirmbach Alm sits at 1,800m in the Zillertal valley, roughly 2.5 hours' walk from Mayrhofen. The approach starts from the village and gains 600m steadily through mixed forest and meadow. The hut works as a solid base for day walks into the surrounding peaks and for through-hikes linking the main Zillertal routes. The location puts you between the Zillertaler Alpen to the north and easier walking country to the south.

The hut has around 25 beds in basic dorm rooms and a couple of smaller doubles. Meals focus on hearty Austrian fare—expect Kaiserschmarrn, Erdäpfelpuffer, and proper coffee. The kitchen can handle dietary requests if you mention them in advance. The hut stays open May through October. Facilities include a dining room with views down the valley, an outhouse, and a hand-pump water source. There's no electricity beyond what runs the kitchen. Cell reception is poor but not nonexistent.

Book direct by phone or email 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Off-season bookings (May, June, September, October) rarely need advance notice. Get the contact details and full access instructions from the Zillertal tourism office in Mayrhofen or ask your accommodation there—they'll have the current phone number. Pay in cash or arrange transfer beforehand; the hut does not take cards.
