Schweinfurter Hut

Schweinfurter Hütte sits at 2,028m in the Zillertal valley, roughly 2.5 hours' walk from Mayrhofen. The approach is straightforward: follow the marked trail up the Zillergrund to the hut. Most hikers come from the Mayrhofen direction and use the valley path as their main access route. The hut anchors a circuit of moderate ridge walks and allows you to reach higher peaks like the Zillertaler Hochkönig (3,076m) in a day's hiking.
The DAV-managed hut has 52 beds across simple rooms. Half-board is standard: expect adequate Austrian fare cooked on-site. There's an outside terrace for weather, and the hut stays open mid-June to late September. Winter closures are firm—don't assume you can arrive outside season. The hut does fill on weekends in July and August, particularly if the weather holds.
Contact the hut directly by phone or email to check availability. Book 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Weekday slots are usually easier to secure. The hut accepts DAV members and non-members equally, though DAV membership gives a small discount on bed rates. Check opening dates before you travel; staff sometimes adjust them based on snow cover in late May and early June.
