Pleisenhütte

Pleisenhütte sits at 1757m in the Piesing valley, on the approach to the Pleisen plateau in Tyrol's limestone ranges. Reach it from Aurach in the Pillersee valley—a 2.5-hour walk via the marked trail that climbs steadily through forest and meadow. The hut also works as a base for ridge walks across the Pleisen Alps, with direct links to Schartwand and traverses toward the higher peaks beyond. Most users arrive from the north, starting from Pillerseetal valley floor.
Pleisenhütte is run by the Austrian Alpine Club and sleeps around 60 people in dormitory rooms and a few doubles. The kitchen serves substantial evening meals and packed lunches for the next day's walk. Water comes from the spring; washing facilities are basic but functional. The hut operates year-round but is busiest in summer and school holidays. Winter access depends on snow and avalanche conditions—check conditions before traveling.
Book direct by phone well ahead for July and August. The hut fills quickly on weekends during the season. Off-season (May, June, September, October) offers better availability and peaceful walking on the plateau.
