Zirler Kristenalm

Zirler Kristenalm sits at 1360m on the Zillertal's western flank, north of Zirl village. Reach it from Zirl in the Zillertal by hiking 1.5 hours uphill through forest on well-marked trails. The approach is steady and forgiving, gaining 350m elevation. You can also access it as part of longer valley traverses heading toward Pitztal or Ötztal.

The hut offers 30 beds across simple rooms. Meals focus on hearty Alpine fare—expect decent Tiroler Gröstl and dumpling soups rather than haute cuisine. They serve coffee, beer, and soft drinks. The kitchen produces straightforward food suited to hungry hikers. Hot showers are available. The hut operates year-round, though confirm opening hours in winter months as staffing varies. This is genuine working hut country, not a tourist destination.

Book by phone directly with the hut. Call ahead during peak season (June to September) as weekends fill regularly. July and August demand booking 3–4 weeks in advance. Shoulder seasons are more relaxed. The hut manages its own schedule independently, so phone contact is essential—email may be unreliable. Staff speak German primarily; some basic English works but bring a phrasebook if that's a concern. This hut suits hikers comfortable with simple accommodation and straightforward Alpine hospitality.
