Plumsjoch-Hut

Plumsjoch-Hütte sits at 1,630m on the Plumsjoch pass between the Ötztal and Zillertal valleys in Tyrol. The hut is a natural hub for walkers crossing between these two major hiking regions. From Ötztal, the approach takes 2–2.5 hours from Längenfeld or Huben. From Zillertal, allow 2–2.5 hours from Mayrhofen. Both routes are well-marked and straightforward alpine trails suitable for fit walkers with basic mountain experience.
The hut offers 40–50 beds in simple dormitory rooms and a few double rooms. The kitchen serves traditional Austrian fare—hearty soups, schnitzel, and fresh bread. Half-board (bed plus dinner and breakfast) is standard. The hut runs year-round but operates with limited staff and reduced capacity in winter; confirm opening dates if you're planning November to March. There's no WiFi, so this is a genuine break from connectivity. The small bar stocks local beer and schnapps. Camping is not permitted.
Book by phone directly with the hut—expect to call at least 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. May through October is the busy season; mid-week slots are easier to find. The hut takes credit card payment but confirm methods when booking. Arrive by mid-afternoon to secure a spot at dinner service. The pass itself can hold snow into June, so check conditions before attempting a winter crossing.
