Spitzsteinhaus

Spitzsteinhaus sits at 1,252m on the Spitzstein in the Chiemgauer Alps, roughly 90 minutes' drive south of Munich. The hut sits above the village of Aschau im Chiemgau. Most hikers approach from Aschau or nearby Kiefersfelden—the walk takes 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your exact starting point. The location works well for day walks across the northern Chiemgauer range, or as a staging point for longer traverses toward Hochplattenhütte.

The DAV Sektion Bergfreunde München runs this straightforward mountain hut with 53 beds across 11 private rooms and dormitories. Half-board is available, and the kitchen serves standard Alpine fare. The hut opens year-round, though staff availability can be limited in winter—confirm ahead. Water is reliable, and there's a wood-burning stove for cool months. This is a working hut without frills: expect solid food and a functional bunk, not luxury.
