Kranzhorn Shelter

Kranzhorn Schutzhütte sits at 1230m in the Mangfall Mountains, south of Rosenheim in Upper Bavaria. You reach it from Bad Aibling via Fischa and Fischbachau, then a 2-hour hike uphill through forest. The final 400m elevation gain follows a steep, rocky path. Most walkers approach from the south: park at Fischbachau village and allow 3 hours for the ascent. The hut lies on the main ridge walk between Setzberg and Kranzhorn peak (1,364m), making it a logical rest point on a full-day traverse.
The hut operates as a simple mountain shelter managed by the local hiking community. It provides basic overnight accommodation, hot meals, and drinks. Capacity is modest—expect 20-30 places. Opening hours and seasonal availability depend on volunteer staffing, so contact ahead. The shelter suits hikers on multi-day ridge walks and day visitors needing refreshment.
