The Stamser Alm lies at around 1,870 m on the sunny slopes above the village of Stams in the Inn valley, Tyrol, on the northern edge of the Stubai Alps. It is a working private alp rather than an Alpine Club hut: during the grazing season from roughly June to September butter and the local grey cheese (Graukäse) are still produced here, and the alp is known above all for one of the finest alpine-pasture panoramas in Tyrol, looking out over the Inn valley and across to the Mieming plateau. The setting is broad open meadow, making it a rewarding day-hike destination for families and walkers based around Stams, Silz and the wider Innsbruck region. The classic approach climbs from Stams on a forest track and path, a walk of about 3.5 hours with roughly 1,180 m of ascent, of moderate difficulty. The alp is not permanently staffed as a mountain refuge, so overnight stays and meals should not be assumed without arrangement: for any overnight booking, phone ahead on +43 664 1261777. Best visited from June through September, when the alp is active and the high meadows are in full use.
