Untere Ochsenalpe

Untere Ochsenalpe sits at 1,911m in the Ötztal, one of the major valley systems in western Tyrol. The hut is reached from the village of Längenfeld via a hiking trail that climbs steadily through the Ochsental side valley. Allow 3 hours from the trailhead to reach the hut. This is a working alpine pasture, not a destination hut, so expect a quiet location away from the main tourist routes.

The hut operates as a simple mountain inn run by the local farming family. It offers basic but comfortable accommodation with roughly 20 beds split between private rooms and dormitory spaces. Meals focus on hearty Austrian fare cooked from local ingredients. Hot showers and a communal lounge are available, though there is no WiFi. The hut opens year-round but operates at reduced capacity in winter months. It serves as a solid base for day hikes in the upper Ötztal and the surrounding Ötztal Alps, including access to easier ridge walks and alpine meadow routes.

Book accommodation directly by email or telephone. Peak season runs July through September—book at least 4 weeks ahead for weekends during these months. The hut is quieter in June and September if you prefer fewer people. Half-board (bed, breakfast, and dinner) is the standard booking. Confirm opening dates before planning a winter visit, as staffing is limited outside the main hiking season.
