Rieder Hut

Rieder Hütte sits at 1765m on the edge of the Sengsen Alps in Upper Austria. Reach it from Ried im Innkreis via the Hengstpass route—allow 3 to 4 hours on foot from the valley floor. The hut works as a base for hiking the surrounding limestone peaks and ridges, with routes to the Schermberg and connections into the broader Sengsen network. The approach is steady rather than technical, making it accessible to competent hill walkers.

The Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) section Ried im Innkreis runs this 40-bed hut. Half-board is standard: simple evening meals and breakfast. The dormitory accommodation is basic but reliable. Note there are no showers on-site. The hut opens year-round, though winter conditions dictate whether the hiking routes are feasible. Water and toilets are available. The hut keeper runs a small bar stocked with local beer and soft drinks.

Book directly with the hut several weeks ahead for July and August weekends. The hut is popular with Austrian club members, so advance notice is essential during peak season. Arrive by mid-afternoon to settle in before dinner service.
