Wolfswiesenhütte

Wolfswiesenhütte sits at 1,633m in the Sengsengebirge range, accessible from the Hengstpass area. The standard approach takes 2.5 hours from Große Klause car park, ascending northeast through forest to open alpine meadow. The hut lies on the Ennstal ridge traverse route, a serious multi-day trek linking the northern limestone plateaus. A steeper, shorter variant via the Groß-Priel descent takes 2 hours but requires scrambling experience and solid footing on loose terrain.
The OeAV-managed hut sleeps 60 across simple dormitory rooms. Meals are hearty: expect Wiener Schnitzel, Erdäpfelsuppe, and fresh bread at dinner. The kitchen serves breakfast from 7am and packed lunches for those continuing the ridge. There's no shower, only washbasin water. The hut runs June through September, closing mid-October. Cell signal is weak but the hut has a landline for emergencies.
Book by mid-May for July and August weekends; weekday slots open up later. Contact the OeAV directly or book through their online portal. The hut gets busy Friday–Sunday from mid-June onward. If full, Bosruck-Hütte (2.5 hours south) and Hochmölbing-Hütte (3 hours west) both offer alternatives along the ridge system.
