Altusrieder Hut

Altusrieder Hütte sits at 1,627m on the Augstenberg plateau in the Bregenzerwald region of Vorarlberg. Reach it from Schoppernau village in 2.5 to 3 hours on marked trails. The hut serves as a base for walks across open moorland and forest. Most visitors arrive from the south via the Schöpperbach valley trail, which gains 600m steadily but never steeply. The route is hikeable year-round on good days, though snow closes access December to March.
The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and offers 50 beds in simple shared rooms. Hot meals are available daily in season—expect basic Alpine fare like Kaiserschmarrn and hearty soups. An on-site spring supplies fresh water. The kitchen is self-catering for hut residents. Opening runs May through October, with extended weekends in shoulder months depending on snow. Half-board is the standard arrangement.
Book 4 to 8 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone or email (check the OeAV website for current details). Weekdays and June visits are less crowded. The hut closes November to April. If the hut is full, Schwarzwasserhütte lies 1.5 hours south and offers similar facilities in the same region.
