Bregenzer Hut

Bregenzer Hütte sits at 1,924m in the Appenzell Alps, a limestone range in far western Austria near the Vorarlberg border. Reach it from Diedams (1,100m) via a hiking trail that takes 3–4 hours. The approach climbs steadily through forest, then opens onto alpine meadow as you near the hut. Most hikers use this route; alternative access exists from Hoher Kasten on the Swiss side, but Austrian entry is more straightforward.

The hut holds 30 people in mixed and family rooms. Naturfreunde Vorarlberg operates it year-round, though winter hours are limited and depend on snow conditions. Full meals are available when staffed; the kitchen serves hearty Austrian fare. You have access to a common room, drying room, and basic sanitation. The location works well as a base for day walks across the limestone plateaus or as an overnight stop on longer ridge routes through the Appenzell Alps.
