Lustenauer Hut

Lustenauer Hütte sits at 1,250m in the Vorarlberg Alps, accessible from the village of Bezau in the Bregenzerwald. The hut lies on hiking routes linking the Hochälpele and Unterberg areas. Most hikers approach from Bezau, a 2.5-hour walk gaining 600m through beech and spruce forest. The setting is pastoral rather than alpine—you're in the transition zone where meadows give way to trees, not above the treeline.
The hut operates year-round as a simple mountain inn. It sleeps around 20 people in basic dormitory accommodation. The kitchen serves traditional Austrian food; half-board is standard for overnight guests. Facilities include a wood-fired stove and outdoor seating overlooking the Bregenzerwald valleys. This is a working local hut, not a destination in itself—most users are hikers passing through on multi-day routes or locals on weekend outings.
Book ahead by email or phone, especially for weekends and school holidays. The hut fills regularly from May to September.
